County gives safety awards to 15 drivers

NEWTON — Skylands Ride transit services are a lifeline for many residents, providing transportation to essential medical appointments, dialysis, and other life-saving treatments, in addition to providing transportation to work.
Sussex County provides public and community paratransit transportation to many of the County’s senior citizens, workers, persons with disabilities, and the general public. Drivers traveled over 635,000 miles last year, and Skylands Ride is proud of their safe and reliable service. The Safety Award represents more than just safe driving. Drivers must use defensive driving, customer service skills, and avert accidents.
Fifteen Skylands Ride drivers received Safety Awards during Senior Day festivities at the New Jersey State Fair on Aug. 10, 2017. Drivers were part of a countywide safety program that has seen excellent results. Freeholder Director Carl Lazzaro, along with Freeholders George Graham, Silvia Petillo, and Phil Crabb presented the drivers with certificates from the County of Sussex. Senator Steven Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space presented each driver with a certificate from the State of New Jersey Senate and Assembly. U.S. Rep. Joshua Gottheimer and John Carrasco of Skylands Risk Management were also on site to congratulate the recipients.
The County Freeholders, Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services, and Skylands Ride congratulate this year's recipients and wish them many more miles of safe travel.
