Space, Oroho laud Overdose Awareness Day

SPARTA — Sen. Steve Oroho and Assemblyman Parker Space (both R-Sussex, Warren, Morris) issued the following joint statement supporting Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.
“The opioid crisis is rampant across New Jersey, and the entire nation. The insidious disease of addiction claims more than 50,000 lives each year in America, and deaths continue to skyrocket in counties across our state.
“To effectively fight this epidemic, we must eliminate the social stigma that forces many addicts and their families to suffer in silence. It is important to shine a light on the severity of this threat, and to encourage victims to seek help and treatment they so desperately need to have a second chance at life.”
“We thank everyone in Northwest New Jersey who is participating in tonight’s candle light vigil in Newton to observe International Overdose Awareness Day sponsored by the Center for Prevention and Counseling and the Sussex County Recovery Advocacy Group and for all the work the professionals and volunteers do on a daily basis to combat drug addiction.”
Overdose Awareness Day is a global event to fight drug addiction. Gov. Chris Christie proclaimed today for remembering individuals lost to drug overdoses, and those who were saved from addiction.
