Supplies For Soldiers is already preparing to send Big Red Stockings to 13 outposts in Afghanistan.
“Our volunteers have been busy getting the bags, candy, cards, and novelties” says Mark Wolfe, Director of Supplies For Soldiers. “It takes us about six weeks from the program startup to shipment. Groups and individuals take their time and money to purchase items and stuff the stockings.”
“Packing will happen right after Thanksgiving and shipping will be December 1st to be received overseas by December 20th” says Wolfe. “It takes about two weeks to leave NJ and arrive in Afghanistan. After that, it is about a week to get to the right outpost.”
“Last year we sent almost 250 of the big red stockings to our soldiers” says Nancy Wolfe, Co-founder. “This year we are aiming to send over 400.”
“Any clubs, groups or offices that are interested in stuffing Stocking For Soldiers should get in contact with Supplies For Soldiers” says Nancy. “We will give you the stockings and list of recommended items to purchase and stuff the stocking with. You can even include your own personal note or holiday card.”
In addition to the “stockings”, Supplies For Soldiers sends items that are requested by the chaplains and commanders of the troops. “We have sent microwaves and microwavable food, DVD’s, first-aid supplies, socks, pillows, games, and pocket bibles just to name a few” says Wolfe.
