Things you may not know about Rinker

I’m Sally Rinker’s campaign manager, and I’d like to tell you some things you may not know about Sally.
Although she had filled a vacant seat the prior November, in Jan. 2010, Sally began her term as Vernon’s mayor, having been “elected” by the sitting council under the Faulkner Act manager/council form of government. Sally quickly surmised that this partisan form of government was not working well and actually disastrous for the township, thanks to the
ongoing maleficence of a series of out-of-town business managers. During that same year, a proposal called for a referendum to be put to voters for a non-partisan, “strong-mayor” government (mayor/council) under the Faulkner Act. Knowing success of this referendum would end the sitting mayor and council’s terms, Sally still opted to openly support and ultimately enable its passage, knowing it would bring a more democratic form of government to Vernon and its residents.
Two administrations ago, the sitting council struck the “Bills List” from their agenda, thereby negating any council discussion of bills to be paid, or posting so residents could be made aware of them (pay first, ask questions later). As transparency is a primary item of Sally’s platform, she has continuously called for the council’s “Bills List” to be reinstated. The current administration has not addressed this issue either. Vernon is the only town in Sussex County that doesn’t vote on their “Bills List.”
Over the years, Sally has ceaselessly offered her silent support to Vernon’s volunteer associations, our EMT’s and firefighters, as well as to local Veteran’s VFW Wallkill Valley Post #8441, helping them to keep their building on Rt. 94. Her platform also includes solutions for residents of Great Gorge Village in their struggles with water and sewer expenses.
For these reasons, and many, many more, Sally has my support.
