Supplies For Soldiers “Operation Red Stocking” is in the final stages.
“Shipping to 13 outposts (several thousand troops) is an immense process” says Mark Wolfe, Director of Supplies For Soldiers. “If it were not for our loyal volunteers and supporters, we would not be able to provide holiday cheer to our brave men and women in harm’s way.”
The final “stuffing” of the “big red stockings” will happen on Nov. 17.
“After the final stockings are filled, we can pack the boxes to ship to Afghanistan” says Nancy Wolfe, co-founder of Supplies For Soldiers. “Last year we shipped 250 stockings. This year we are close to 500. If we get the boxes out by Dec. 1, they should arrive by Dec. 20. After that, it takes about a week to get to the right outpost.”
“Most people do not know the cost involved in the shipping of the boxes” says Mark Wolfe. “Each box costs about $40 to ship via USPS to the APO (Army Post Office). Even though that is the most economical way to ship, this entire shipment will cost over $2,000.”
Supplies For Soldiers is looking for corporate sponsorship to financially assist with fulfilling requests from the troops”. “We have sent microwaves and microwavable food, DVD’s, first-aid supplies, socks, pillows, games, and pocket bibles just to name a few items that have been requeted by the chaplains on behalf of the soldiers” says Wolfe.
