Mountain Creek begins snowmaking

With temperatures dropping into the teens overnight, Mountain Creek Resort took advantage of Mother Nature’s helping hand and started up its snowmaking system for the 2017-18 winter season. This marks the earliest date the resort has been able to get a head start on covering the slopes in recent history and sets the tone for what promises to be a return to a classic Northeast Winter.
Long range forecasts and climatologists continue to predict colder than average temperatures and above average snowfall for the area, and Mountain Creek intends to take every opportunity to continue to make snow in hopes of an early opening. VP of Sales & Marketing at the resort,
Hugh Reynolds remarked “It’s awesome to see this winter weather returning to the northeast. Our snowmakers have been waiting all fall to get back at their job. Mother Nature gave them the call last night and we’ll be working around the clock as weather allows to get the ski season started.”
In reference to the snowmaking team at Mountain Creek and throughout the region, Reynolds added “These guys really are the unsung heroes of the mountain. If you love skiing and snowboarding, and live in the northeast, hug your local snowmaker.”
Winter operations at the resort were taken over by SNOW Operating this fall and they look forward to continuing to see the positive impacts this will have on the overall resort guest experience. SNOW Operating has already pledged a $5 Million investment in snowmaking over the next 5 years, and brings the experience of working with almost 50 resorts worldwide including Killington and Aspen Snowmass. “The future is bright, and cranking up the snowmaking system in early November is just the first of many operating improvements we hope will enhance our guest’s experience at the resort” said Reynolds.
Mountain Creek is targeting an early December opening, but if cold temperatures persist through November that day can change. For more information and up to the minute updates, visit www.mountaincreek.com.
