Laddey, Clark & Ryan, LLP hosted its final segment of the 2017 Employment Law Seminar Series, Wage and Hour Basics on October 24, 2017 at Perona Farms in Andover.
Jessica A. Jansyn, Esq. and Michael R. Darbee, Esq., members of the firm’s Employment and Labor Law Group, presented the three hour program to small business owners and human resource professionals throughout Morris and Sussex Counties.
“Issues surrounding employee pay and hours continue to challenge employers,” stated Jessica. “It is my hope that our audience learned how to spot wage and hour issues in the workplace and to resolve them before they lead to litigation. An investigation by the Department of Labor or a private lawsuit is the last things employers want to go through and it is our goal to help avoid such consequences.”
The interactive seminar reviewed state and federal wage and hour laws, including minimum wage, exempt and non-exempt status of employees, payment of overtime, use of volunteers or interns, and various other related topics. Audience members were struck by wage and hour requirements that they were not aware of and many left with plans to make changes.
“Our goal was to provide information that will allow human resource professionals to be proactive in protecting their businesses,” says Darbee. “Wage and hour laws are complicated. It is important that employment practices are regularly monitored for compliance in the ever-changing legal environment.”
The schedule for the 2018 Employment Law Seminar Series will be announced in January 2018. To learn more about Laddey, Clark & Ryan’s seminars, call 973-729-1880 or email gcostantini@lcrlaw.com.
