    Helen Gillis, age 76, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York. Born in Sussex to the late Chester and Lila (Kent) Pittenger, Helen had lived in the Sussex-Wantage area for most of her life before moving to New York State a few years ago. She had been a self-employed home health aide for many years. Helen was a member of the Sussex United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, George A. Gillis in 2004; her daughter, Cindy Everitt in 2016; her sisters, Betty Becker in 2012 and Laura P. Havens in 2013; and her brother, Chester Pittenger. Mrs. Gillis is survived by her two sons, George Gillis and his wife, Linda, of Hamburg and John Gillis and his wife, Trish, of Wantage; her two sisters, Emma Beck and her husband, Stan, of Colorado and Diane Wilcox of PA; 6 grandchildren; and one great grandson. Private cremation services have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. A burial of Helen’s ashes will be interred with her husband at Clove Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the family to help defray the cost of the funeral.
