Supplies For Soldiers “Operation Red Stocking” is a success.
“With the help of a supportive community and great volunteers, Supplies For Soldiers completed the 2nd Annual “Operation Red Stocking” says Mark Wolfe, Director of Supplies For Soldiers.
“The final “stuffing” of the “big red stockings” took place at the American Legion Post 132 in Franklin, NJ last week” says Nancy Wolfe, Co-Founder of Supplies For Soldiers. “Once shipped, it takes two weeks to arrive in Afghanistan and another week to get to their destination, so the timing worked well. Even the Sussex post office helped by sending TWO trucks to pick up the boxes at 7 a.m. on a Saturday.”
Forty-one boxes, weighing 1,318 pounds, going to 12 outposts in Afghanistan contains 543 big red stockings.
“This will hopefully brighten the season for several thousand troops” says Wolfe. “It is amazing to see how many community groups stepped up to help.”
Various departments of Picatinny Arsenal, Highland Lakes Senior Center, Glenwood Baptist Church, Tri-M Hopatcong, Goddard School, CPAC, Mary Kay Cosmetics – Tina Hulsman, Hope Church, General Dynamics, Spark-A-Doo Grooming, and American Legion Post 132 are just a few that helped with collection and “stocking stuffing”.
“Most people do not know the cost involved in the shipping of the boxes” says Mark Wolfe. “Each box costs about $32 to ship via USPS to the APO (Army Post Office). Even though that is the most economical way to ship, this entire shipment cost about $1,300.”
Supplies For Soldiers needs right now are a corporate sponsorship to help offset costs as well as warehouse space to accommodate growth of the organization
