Santa came for veterans and their families
Sparta — Santa Claus and his elves at Project Help did not forget northern New Jersey veterans and their families this Christmas.
Project Help, a local charity devoted to helping veterans and their families, made Christmas a much happier time for local veterans by sponsoring the second annual Santa Shop on December 21, 2017 at the Sparta Middle School on Rt. 517 in Sparta. Toys were collected by individual and the West Milford American Legion.
The Christmas shop was open to the parents to come and shop, at no cost, for all the gifts they needed for their children.
Veterans who were part of the Center for Prevention’s Military Familes Night Out program were invited to shop for the holidays. This is just a small way that those at Project Help can thank those who served our country.
Sandy Mitchell, the organization’s executive director, will later this month address the veterans who are enrolled in the Military Families Night Out program hosted by the Center for Prevention in Newton. Mitchell will talk to the veterans about the resources that Project Help can supply to them and their families. She will address those who have fallen upon hard times, or have just not succeeded as they’d hoped, or who need VA assistance but don’t exactly know how to get it.
Project Help, Inc., a 501(c)3 charity, is incorporated in Sussex County.
“Our mission,” said Mitchell, “is to help veterans and their families during difficult times. We cover the seven northern counties in assisting veterans in getting their lives back together.”
Mitchell, the founder of Project Help, knows only too well the aftermath of war. She was married to a Vietnam Vet and has a special place in her heart for all veterans of every war. “Many are lost in war and many as the result of being in war,” she said, having lost her husband after he returned home from Vietnam.
