Inspirational shop opens in Vernon

VERNON — Rita Chimento is a lovely lady with a quick, friendly smile and a peaceful nature. Like most of us, her life is not picture perfect.
Dealing with several personal and family upsets, she has always believed that things happen for a reason and there are no coincidences in life.
“Five-minute pity parties are allowed, then move on,” she smiled.
According to Chimento we’re guided by forces, whether the forces are God or some ultimate power, spirits, angels or possibly loved ones who have passed, it’s all related to the metaphysical.
She received her Associate degree from the New York Fashion Institute in buying and merchandising only to take a different path in life. In 2015, Chimento received a BA degree from the University of Methaphysics and is an ordained minister and metaphysical practitioner. She has studied with Janet Nohavec and has taken additional courses at the Institute of Spiritual Development.
In laymen’s terms metaphysical is a reality beyond what is perceptible to the senses. Supernatural, perhaps.
“Nothing scary, only empowering,” she said.
Chimento simply wants to seek peace, heighten good energy and achieve healing.
Her new business rainbow Reflections by Rita opened on Dec. 9 in the Vernon Colonial Shopping Plaza on Route 94.
The shop is a two-fold enterprise, retailing inspirational items that pass on happiness and peace and “put a smile on someone’s face”. Just a few of the items are candles, calming spray, Woodstock wind chimes, journals, inspirational art, classic string art and fascinating, uplifting statuettes.
The other developing aspect of Chimento’s business is to offer services and classes like Reiki healing, use of Chakras, meditation classes and intuitive readings.
Chimento refers to her new shop as an “inspirational gift shop with a metaphysical flair.”
Browsing and shopping hours are currently Wednesday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
