It came at the most fitness beneficial time of the year. The beginning of a new year when diehard fitness gurus and even those who just overindulged for the holidays find it necessary for a fitness reboot. The open house and dedication of the newly expanded Sussex County YMCA in Hardyston took place on Saturday January 13. State, county and town officials joined the YMCA staff, donors, members and future members to tour, observe and enjoy the Y’s new 7,500-square-foot gym, expanded wellness center, indoor climbing area, children’s play structure, spin studio and lobby and locker room improvements.
According to Rick Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, construction commenced eight months ago with the official ground breaking. $3.9 million was raised for the renovation project with the help of corporations and foundations as well as private, individual donations.
“We are so thrilled with the completed project,” stated Jennifer Gardner, Executive Director of the Sussex County YMCA. “We currently have an active membership of 9,400.”
The YMCA expanded previously in 2005. With the current expansion, the Y expects to accommodate many more new members who can look forward to a future of fitness and health.
“This will become a place where families can enjoy and be together and have fun. It’s where kids can connect and grow. It’s where every child in Sussex County can learn how to swim,” said YMCA President Gorab.
