Hilltop to host engineers week

| 14 Feb 2018 | 01:02

Hilltop Country Day School is excited to announce its participation in this years' Engineers Week, an annual celebration introducing and engaging students in all things engineering.
National Engineers Week began in 1951 in conjunction with President George Washington's birthday. Washington is considered the nation's first engineer and the event emphasizes the importance of learning math, science and technical skills.
The theme for Engineers Week is "Inspiring Wonder". Hilltop will capture this year's theme with a variety of school-wide and community events. The week will celebrate how engineers make a difference in our world, share the need for engineers and bring engineering to life for students, educators and parents.
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, Hilltop will kick off Engineers Week with a school-wide design challenge during the all-school meeting. Hilltop will also host Engineering Design challenges for first, second and third graders at 10 a.m. and fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade challenges at 12:30 p.m. Area students who are off for the President's Day holiday are invited to join our Engineering Day challenges for free. Additionally, on Thursday, Feb. 22 we will hold an afterschool workshop for Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. This day is intended to give girls a chance to think like an engineer. This after school event is for girls Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The event will begin at 3 p.m. and run through 4:30 p.m.
Engineers Week at Hilltop will end with the annual middle school Science Olympics. Middle school students will collaborate in groups by grade level to solve and construct three engineering challenges. This year's challenges include Battle Bots, Propeller Cars, and a Hydraulic lift.
