The novel, he co-authored with Reynolds examines the issue of racism in an inner city school. All American Boys is the recipient of the Coretta Scott King Author Honor award, the Walter Dean Myers Award, Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award, and was selected as the American Library Association Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults.
