Brendan Kiely, New York Times Bestselling Author of All American Boys (co-authored with Jason Reynolds), spent an exciting day with the English teachers and students at Vernon Township High School who read and studied his novel.

More than 200 students from all levels discussed the writing process with him and many were inspired to write about cultural topics, such as racism and discrimination. The novel, he co-authored with Reynolds examines the issue of racism in an inner city school. All American Boys is the recipient of the Coretta Scott King Author Honor award, the Walter Dean Myers Award, Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award, and was selected as the American Library Association Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults.

Kiely, who was an English teacher for ten years, also wrote The Last True Love Story and The Gospel of Winter, which has been published in ten languages.
