Arthur Reid passed away on April 21, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, he was 89 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family. Art was born in Hawthorne, NJ and graduated from Ramsey High School in 1946, with letters in varsity football, baseball and basketball. For his service in the Army he was awarded a WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal from Japan. He attended college at Rutgers and Lees McRae, where he joined Phi Gamma Delta, and University of Richmond, where he earned a business degree.
Art became a CPA with Ernst & Young in 1959, where he opened and managed their first Long Island office. Art was very involved in many community organizations including the AICPA, New York Society of CPA’s, March of Dimes, Long Island Symphony, the Island Orchestra Society and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He taught Cost Accounting at Adelphi, Hofstra and CW Post, LIU. In 1977, he was voted Outstanding Man of the Year in Accounting by CW Post, LIU School of Business. In 1981 he was honored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews for his dedication to their cause.
Art enjoyed his retirement, filling his days with golfing, boating, and music, and visiting his four children and their families. He was an avid Giants, Mets and Knicks fan.
He is survived by his four beloved children, his son, Arthur and wife, Kirsten Reid of West Jordan, Utah, their 4 children Erin, Tyler, Justin, and Quinton, his daughter Cindy and husband, Mark Megnin of Vernon, N.J., their 3 children Sean, Evan and Colton, daughter Patricia and husband, Trevor Wismann, of Rio Rancho, N.M., their 4 children Christopher Askew, Trevor, Liam and Anneliese, and daughter Jennifer and husband, Neil Layne of Southport, Conn., their 2 sons Jordan and Brendan, son-in-law William Harris Lee of Chicago, Il, brother Ronald (Chip) Reid and wife, Kathy of Shepardstown, WV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arthur is predeceased by his wife Joan Cavanagh Reid, his daughter, Susan Reid Lee and his brother, Robert Reid.
He was a loving and devoted family man, who will be terribly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday April 24, 2018 from 3-6PM at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94 (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Ct.) Vernon, NJ. Interment at a later date at Genola Rural Cemetery East Northport, N.Y.
