Former Giants defense-man George Martin visited some fourth grade students at Lounsberry Hollow Elementary School on May 2.
Well known for his 14 years as a defensive end for the New York Giants, Martin spoke to the classes about motivation to reach dreams and what is needed for any successful journey and team.
Martin shared with the students facts about his journey across the United States to raise money for the rescue and recovery workers of 9/11. Many of the questions he posed the students had them using number sense when thinking about his journey. Mr. Martin told them Coach Bill Parcells always emphasized be prepared. Being prepared, accepting assistance from others, and finding ways that something good can come from something bad were themes during his talk. He encouraged children to see what America represents and shared stories about great Americans he met. We, as Americans, have a lot in common. Mr. Martin dedicated a copy of his book Just Around the Bend to the class.
