The Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s Crystal Cup season long Crystal Cup competitions kicked off on Wednesday, May 9, at the Black Bear Golf Club with a sold-out roster of Club members seeking to qualify for the end of season Crystal Cup Championship.
The format for play was a two-golfer team scramble competition in which each golfer hits their shot. The team then selects the best shot of the two to play. This process is followed for each hole with the team carding the best score declared the winner.
Prizes were awarded to the top 7 teams with the top 3 teams earning a spot in the end of year Crystal Cup Championship held in October. The winning team of Thomas Freeman and Jim Ruane scored a 7 under par 65 to outperform the second place team of Jack Demetris and Tim OKrongly who scored a 4 under par 68.
Prizes were also awarded to the best Men, Women and Senior performers in the longest drive and closest to the pin competitions. John Christensen’s long drive on hole No. 13 took the win for the Men, while Gary Kitchell won long drive honors for the Seniors. Karen Stepsus was the long drive winner for the women. Mike Criscuoli’s tee shot came to rest 5 feet 6 inches from the pin to take the closest to the pin prize for the men with Buffy Whiting taking the prize for women’s closest to the pin on hole No. 14.
At the conclusion of play the golfers retired to the Black Bear Golf Club’s Ballroom to celebrate a fun day of golf and enjoy a delicious buffet dinner.
The next Crystal Cup event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13, at the Ballyowen Golf Club. More information about this and other events at the Crystal Springs Golf Resort can be obtained by vising their web site at https://www.crystalgolfresort.com/golf/events/.
