Vernon child burned in port-a-john

A 6-year-old boy from Vernon Township suffered a chemical burn after using a port-a-john at Old Orchard on Wednesday.
Vernon Township police said a 17-year-old male was charged with disorderly conduct on a juvenile complaint ad admittedd to sprying pepper spray on the toilet seat in the port-a-john.
Police said the boy and his mother, later identified at Danielle Filato, left the field before police arrived to take her son to the doctor.
The Pochuck Fire Department and McAfee Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Sussex County HAZMAT.
Officers spoke with Mrs. Filato via phone, who stated that her son had a reaction of redness, burning, and swelling after going in to use the port-o-john.
Investigation on scene lead to a suspect involved in the incident. Police said the suspect, who is a resident of Vernon was brought to police headquarters and was released to his father pending a court appearance.
