Cedar Mountain Primary School celebrated Flag Day, June 14, with a Kindergarten “Patriotic Sing-Along.”
The program, organized by Principal Rosemary Gebhardt and Creative Director Katie Gagliardi, was full of optimism and hope.
Kindergarten students recited, “The “Pledge of Allegiance;” Melissa Barrett led the gym full of parents, family, and friends singing, “The Star Spangled Banner;” and students recited a rendition of, “Stars and Stripes” - “Wave, wave the flag!”
In addition, students sang by heart and with gusto, “Your a Grand Old Flag,” “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and “This Land is Your Land.”
They also recited the poem “America:”
“A is for, “America,”
M is for, “My home.”
E is for, “Ever beautiful.”
R is for, “Rise each day.”
I is for, “Inspire the world.”
C is for “Country of opportunities.”
A is for, “Always be blessed.”
The stripes are for the 13 colonies.
The stars are for the 50 states.
This is the flag of our country.”
Gebhardt explained during the program, they start their school day each morning by ringing the bell for announcements, which a student rang for the whole crowded gym.
She continued, as first-graders, the current Kindergarten classes will lead the procession of new Kindergarten classes, the flag salute, and singing songs on the first day of school, which will be Sept. 6. Gebhardt added, “They are thoroughly prepped;” and “Enjoy Flag Day!”
The students then sang, “We want to thank you! Thanks, thanks, thanks to you!” - to the “Bingo” song tune.
After the program, loved ones took pictures, videos, and selfies with the children.
