Wantage to host free Narcan training

WANTAGE — A free community training on how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and how to administer the life-saving medication, Narcan, is set for Wednesday, Aug. 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Wantage Municipal Building, 888 Route 23, Wantage.
The training, sponsored by Center for Prevention and Counseling, Newton, is being conducted in conjunction with the Opioid Overdose Prevention Project staff from Morris County Prevention Is Key. These free Narcan trainings are being offered throughout the state of New Jersey because of a grant from the New Jersey Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Participants will learn to recognize the signs of an overdose, how to administer Narcan and how to respond to an opioid overdose. They also will learn more about addiction prevention, treatment and recovery support options in Sussex County and how to get help for yourself or a loved one.
Each year, people of all ages are lost from drug overdose, globally. Some survivors suffer permanent injuries, causing devastation to their families and friends. In Sussex County alone, first responders administered the opioid overdose reversal medication, Narcan, 146 times in 2017 in an effort to save community members from possible overdose death by an opioid like heroin and prescription medication.
