Laraine F. Hockenberry, age 77, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at Newton Medical Center while surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sussex to the late Le Roy and Agnes (Little) Dunn, Mrs. Hockenberry had graduated from Sussex High School and lived in Sussex County all of her life. She had been employed by the former Alexander Linn Hospital in Sussex as a ward clerk for 18 years and then worked for Winter’s Napa Auto Parts in Sussex as a bookkeeper and secretary for 22 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Sussex United Methodist Church for 56 years and an Auxiliary member of the Pochuck Valley Fire Department in Vernon. She loved butterflies and was known for her various collections of butterfly items and Mikasa. She also enjoyed bowling and going camping in Pennsylvania.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Allen V. Dunn and Richard L. Dunn and her sisters, Madeline Dunn, Carol Dunn, and Barbara Crawn Lewis. Mrs. Hockenberry is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Philip R.; her devoted daughters, Tammy Brands and her husband, Owen, of Wantage and Vicki Hinchman and her husband Warren of Vernon; and her cherished grandchildren, Garret and Philip Brands and Austin and Morgan Hinchman. The Hockenberry family would like to offer their sincere thanks to everyone who took care of Laraine. The staff, nurses and doctors at all the hospitals were all wonderful and helpful in taking care of Laraine. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at the Sussex United Methodist Church, 15 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Private cremation services have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex.
