John E. VanGorden, Jr., age 30, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, in Danbury, Connecticut. Born in Newton on Aug. 18, 1987, Johnny grew up in Sussex County before moving to Lords Valley, Pa. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and riding dirt bikes and four wheelers. Johnny was a New York Jets fan, a New York Mets fan, and a Chicago Bulls fan. He had a smile that would light up the entire room when he walked in. He was predeceased by his grandfather, William Douglas Van Orden on Jan. 10, 2018, and his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Helen VanGorden. He is survived by his mother, Doris J. VanGorden and her longtime companion, who was Johnny’s step-father, John Occhipinti of Lords Valley, Pa.,; his father, John E. VanGorden, Sr. of Greeley, Pa.,; his three sons, John E. VanGorden, III, of Lords Valley, Pa,, and Bentley VanGorden and Rivers VanGorden both of Tioga Junction, Pa.; his two brothers, William VanGorden of Lords Valley, Pa., and Joseph VanGorden of Greeley, Pa.,; his two sisters, Nicole VanGorden of Lords Valley, Pa., and Lalina VanGorden of Greeley, Pa.,; his niece, Teigan; his nephew, Travis; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Van Orden of Sussex. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex.
Friends may pay their respects to the family on Tuesday prior to the service from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to his mother, Doris or to the funeral home to help defray the funeral costs.
