Arts academy offers fall classes

— The Newton Theatre Arts Academy will be offering classes this Fall in Dance, Art, Acting, and Musical Theatre.
Dance
Beginning Tap - $200 - for students K through 12th - taught by Lindsay Dunn
Designed for those just getting familiar with tap shoes, this class will introduce core tap steps. A big emphasis will be placed on rhythm and musicality, learning how to put basic steps into combinations, and moving across the floor. Students must provide their own tap shoes.
Offered Mondays 5:30 - 6:30 for 8 weeks starting Sept. 17th at The Arts Academy (No class on Oct 8th)
Intermediate Tap - $200 - for students K through 12th - taught by Lindsay Dunn
For students with basic tap knowledge. In this class, students will learn intermediate tap steps and how to apply them in combinations. They will continue working on balance and rhythm exercises. Students will become versatile as they learn different forms of tap such as musical theatre, street tap, and classical tap. Students must provide their own tap shoes.
Offered Mondays 7:00 - 8:00 for 8 weeks starting Sept 17th at The Arts Academy (No class on Oct 8th)
Art
Studio Exploration: $200 - for students 2nd - 8th grade - taught by Robin Cutillo
Age and skill appropriate projects designed to stimulate the creative process and individual artistic expression. Art techniques in drawing, painting and collage are taught using a variety of media including watercolor, tempera, acrylic, pastel, collage and mixed media.
Offered Saturdays 9:00 to 10:00 for 8 weeks starting Sept 29th at the Arts Academy
Drawing/Portfolio: $200 - for students 5th-12th grade - taught by Robin Cutillo
Explores the world of drawing techniques, including graphite, charcoal, pen, and oil & soft pastels. Value, color theory and composition will be covered on a regular basis. Students will be encouraged to work from nature, photographs, still life and their own imagination.
Offered Saturdays 10;300 to 11:300 for 8 weeks starting Sept 29th at the Art Academy
Acting
Acting Up Kids - $200 - for students K through 4th - taught by Sara Bartlett
Have fun learning the fundamentals of acting. Gain stage presence and basic acting technique through theatre games and improvisation in a safe and creative atmosphere.
There is a showcase the last day of class.
Offered Wednesdays 4:30 to 5:30 for 8 weeks starting Sept.19th at the Arts Academy (No class on Oct 31st)
Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre Workshop - $225 - for students 5th through 12th - taught by Lindsay Dunn
For triple threats in the making, this class will hone performance skills while providing instruction in voice, acting, and dance. Students will also learn song and dance routines set to numbers from popular musical theatre productions. Special attention will be paid to performance skills and song interpretation. The program culminates in a showcase.
Offered Wednesdays 6:00 to 7:30 for 8 weeks starting Sept 19th at the Arts Academy (No class on Oct 31st)
Disney's The Lion King Kids Experience - $375 ($300 for additional family members) - for students 3rd through 8th grade - taught and directed by Sara Bartlett.
Broadway’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world and now students have the opportunity to perform an adaptation of this one-of-a-kind musical. The Lion King Kids Experience features a multi-media curriculum designed to introduce students to a wide range of theatrical skills. There is a public performance at The Newton Theatre Nov 17th.
This class is open to 30 students on a first come basis by registration.
Class/Rehearsals on TUES and THURS at The Academy from 5:00 to 7:00 for 9 weeks starting Tuesday Sept 18th with a performance Saturday Nov. 17th at 3:00pm on The Newton Stage
