— The Highland Lakes Art Show was held this past weekend as it has been for the previous 58 years, showcasing the creativity of resident professionals and resident amateurs alike.
According to art show chairperson Mary Ann Mastrangelo and co- chair Joyce Healy, the show is two part in nature, with a professional artist display on Saturday evening and an amateur showing of art and crafts on Sunday afternoon.
“The professional artist display was a meet and greet with wine and cheese, over 20 local Highland Lakes professionals and a violinist from the high school providing the mood music,” specified Mastrangelo, who has chaired the event for roughly 25 years.
The end of summer event drew about 200 people on professional Saturday, while a good flow of viewers reviewed the amateurs on Sunday. Judging was done by professional artists and both monetary and ribbon awards were distributed to the winners of various categories. One award, being the Larry Wilson Memorial Award, honors and remembers Wilson, a painter and teacher of art of young people who was instrumental in establishing the late summer art show.
Chairperson Mastrangelo was grateful to the many contributing artists, dedicated volunteers and all who attended the Highland Lakes Art Show.
Mastrangelo smiled. "People say this show is the social highlight of the season.”
