Henry J. Bast, age 85, peacefully went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tuxedo, N.Y., to the late Martin and Trina Bast, he had lived in the Middletown and Goshen areas of New York before moving to Wantage 17 years ago. Mr. Bast had been a self-employed dairy farmer and retired from the Union Local 445 in Newburgh, New York as a truck driver. Mr. Bast was a member of the Reformed Baptist Church of Lafayette.
He was predeceased by his son, Paul Bast in 2011 and his brother, Martin Bast in 2015. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (nee Dykstra); his two sons, Peter Bast and his wife, Rena, of Wantage and David Bast and his wife Kirstin of Middletown, N.Y.; his daughter, Joy Tallamy and her husband, Duce, of Wantage; his daughter-in-law, Demi Bast of Spencer, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at the Reformed Baptist Church of Lafayette, 28 Meadows Road, Lafayette, NJ 07848.
Private burial services have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Henry Bast’s memory to Karen Ann Quinlan Center of Hope Hospice, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton NJ 07860.
