Glenwood Baptist Church will invite members, families and friends to celebrate the church's 180th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at the church, 1863 County Route 565.
The church congregation dates to 1792, with official church records dating back as far as 1838. The congregation selected its founding year as 1838.
The original church served the congregation for more than a century. On Christmas morning 1982, the church burned to the ground. The cause of the fire was later identified to have been a faulty furnace. Members, families and friends joined together to rebuild the church, and the new church emerged from the ashes. Tthe new chruch celebrated its first service on June 24, 1984. The congregation continues to grow and serve the people within the community and beyond.
Special music will be performed by the Glenwood Baptist Choir. E'Lissa Maynard will be the pianist and soloist.
Longest and newest members will be honored with plaques.
The church's 180th Anniversary Celebration Cookbook is now available and may be purchased at the event or by calling Ms. Banta at 973-764-6616 or Ms. Gentilella at 973-875-4048. Books are $15.00 for one; two or more $14.00.
