The Center for Prevention and Counseling’s Recovery Community Center at 65 Newton-Sparta Road recently hosted “Recovery Talk”, a free community Lunch ‘n Learn sponsored by Garden State Treatment Center.
This informative event included representative speakers from several peer recovery support groups including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and SMART Recovery. In addition, The Center’s Recovery Center Support staff explained Peer-Based Recovery Support Services provided by trained Recovery Specialists. A representative of the New Jersey Coalition for Addiction Recovery Support or, NJ CARS, also spoke about how individuals and organizations can get involved. This comprehensive one and a half hour program highlighted the need for many different modalities of recovery and provided an explanation of each of the local options.
The Center for Prevention and Counseling has been improving the local climate of addiction recovery supports in Sussex County through recovery-focused educational events, new formats of recovery meetings, an increased understanding of a new recovery advocacy movement and the creation of the Recovery Community Center at 65 Newton-Sparta Road.
Attending this bi-monthly Lunch ‘n Learn were many treatment providers from throughout the tristate area, for one, because of the wonderful relationships that Cheryl Semiz, Outreach Coordinator, Garden State Treatment Center has developed by welcoming the concept that, “our communities recover when we work together to share resources!”
The next Recovery Talk Lunch ‘n Learn will be held in October and will focus on recovery resources for friends and family members who want to know more about supporting recovery. Text @recovery65 to 81010 and receive a text message about upcoming events at The Center.
