Vernon honors outstanding athletes

The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. honored its outstanding atheltes for week 3 of the fall 2018 season.
Senior captain Erika Sofis has led the girl’s tennis team early on this season. Erika won both of her matches last week, including a clinching match over Newton. According to Coach Miller, Erika is the team captain and sets a fine example on and off the court for the team.
Junior Chris Ruiz placed first overall in the boy’s cross-country meet against Hopatcong, Jefferson and Kittatinny last week. He ran a personal best for the season and has shown great strides coming off last season. According to Coach Jim Shenise, Chris has been a leader on and off the race course for the Vernon Boys’ team this year and is a true mentor and role model for his teammates.
Chris also is a member of the varsity indoor and outdoor track teams.
