Edmund J. Zwirek, Jr., age 81, peacefully passed away on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Scranton, PA to the late Edmund J. Zwirek, Sr. and Catherine (Shontz) Zwirek, he had lived in Fair Lawn before moving to Sussex County in 1969. He graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 1955 and received his BS in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1959. Mr. Zwirek had served in the United States National Guard. He had been employed as a plant manager in the corrugated container industry before his retirement. Mr. Zwirek was a member of the Port Jervis Country Club and was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed football and wrestling. He also liked gardening, stories of World War II history, and smoking his cigars.
Mr. Zwirek is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean (Barnard); his two daughters, Heather Zwirek Neuhs of Cornwall, New York and Jennifer Zwirek and her husband Mark of Scottsdale, Arizona; his three sisters, Joan Zwirek of Midland Park, Constance High of Fort Meyers, Florida, and Susan Kiernan and her husband Thomas of Bernardsville; his three grandchildren, Madeline, August, andAtlas. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Friends may pay their respects to the family prior to the service on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
