Matthew 'Monte' D. Montana

    Matthew “Monte” D. Montana, 77 years old, passed away peacefully at Villa Marie Claire Hospice, Saddle River, NJ on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018. Matthew was born and raised in Astoria, N.Y., after marriage, he moved his family to Blairstown, N.J. He then moved back to Astoria followed by Bethpage, N.Y., before finally settling in Vernon, N.J., for the last 14 years.
    Monte worked as a construction worker and commercial mover for many years, but his favorite job was the work he did for Hercules inc. Monte took great joy in animals, listening to rock and roll, meatball dinners, and sitting outside on a hot sunny day. He was an avid fan of the New York Rangers, the New York Giants and followed horse racing. Monte is best remembered as a doting husband, father and grandfather.
    Monte is predeceased by a sister, Marion Volpe and is the beloved husband for 52 years of Barbara Montana(nee Walkuski) of Vernon Twp., N.J. Devoted father of Danielle Messina and her husband, Angelo of Astoria, NY, Nicole Amati and her husband, Enzo of Vernon Twp., NJ and Corinne Montana-Stack and her husband, Michael of Bethpage, N.Y. Loving grandfather of Claudia, Cologero, Angelo, Francesca, Sophia, Nicholas and William Matthew.
    The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis deSales RC Church, Vernon Twp., NJ at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Glenwood.
