Edward Lodema, Jr, 84 years, of Montague, New Jersey, passed away on Nov. 17, 2018.
He was born at home on February 1, 1934, in Midland Park, N.J., to Dorothea (nee Riemersma) and Edward Lodema, Sr.
Edward Lodema and Nancy (Wallner) Lodema were married for 58 years. They lived in Franklin Lakes, Waldwick and 30 years in West Milford, where they raised their five children. The following 15 years they enjoyed retirement in New York and Florida, returning to Montague, N.J., where they currently reside.
Edward worked at Midland Park Lumber Company for over 40 years.
Edward was a lifelong baseball and softball player, having played in many leagues in Bergen and Passaic Counties and also with the Rangers in Midland Park. He enjoyed playing after retirement in Florida. He volunteered as a West Milford Little League coach for 13 years, a Fardale firefighter in Mahwah, and was involved in Boy Scouts in West Milford. Edward was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and created many beautiful pieces of furniture. He could often be found “tinkering” in his garage or yard.
He will always be remembered for the love of his family. Edward is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, his children Kevin Lodema and his wife Kelly of Montague, N.J, Daniel Lodema and his wife Kelli of Raymond, NE, James Lodema and his wife Patricia of Andover, N.J., Karen Sabyan and her husband Glenn of Wantage, N.J., and Tara Guarino and her husband Raymond of Newfoundland, N.J.; his cherished grandchildren Jesse Lodema, Nikole Maillet and her husband Michael, and Breann Lodema; Matthew and Benjamin Lodema; Ashley Hopper and her husband John, James Lodema, Jr., and Bradley Lodema; Haley and Kaitlyn Sabyan; and Dillon and Conner Guarino; his adored great grandchildren Eva, Sage, Kaden, and Brynn; his loving sister Doris DeVries of FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road, Newfoundland, NJ 07435 (For GPS use 1 Post Place).
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by the interment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, N.J.
