Pond House transformed into winter wonderland

VERNON — Pond House at 13 Black Walnut Mountain Road in Vernon is a lovely location with a pond flowing in the front yard of the property.
At this time of the year, Pond House transforms into a Christmas Wonderland courtesy of John and Camille Westermajer. With 43 whimsical wooden cut-outs, thousands of Christmas lights, the house and property oozes holiday spirit.
“It all started with me constructing Santa’s sleigh and the reindeer,” John said.
The sleigh and reindeer pattern are the white silhouette type with a red-nosed Rudolph in the lead. The process soon “morphed into” many more cut-outs productions, using a jigsaw, that took John between one and eight hours to complete. John has no favorites but wife Camille’s favorite is the combo Joy-Nativity cut-out because it shows the reason for the season.
Angels, elves, wooden soldiers, deer and an ultimate collection of penguins adorn the yard.
“I don’t decorate the house and property for any other holiday, only Christmas. I enjoy the therapeutic work and the outcome,” explained John.
Although Pond House is guarded by a troop of happy wooden soldiers, the Westermajers welcome residents to enjoy the holiday scene at 13 Black Walnut Mountain Road which is just off Vernon’s Drew Mountain Road.
