glen Meadow brings winter concert to Cedar Mountain

VERNON — Some of the cutest students walked from Cedar Mountain Primary School, Dec. 19, to Glen Meadow Middle School for the Winter Concert specially prepared for them.
During the concert, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Glen Meadow Orchestra, Choir, and Band students played to an excited audience of Kindergarten and First Graders.
The Cedar Mountain Primary School students were all dressed up in their favorite holiday sweaters, in honor of their special concert and designated “Holiday Sweater Day.”
Before the concert began, one little Kindergarten boy showed everyone the sweater his mom had made of a fireplace in the front and four little stockings hanging down underneath his arms.
Glen Meadow Middle School Assistant Principal Kristin Gudenkauf welcomed the students and introduced the orchestra conductor and teacher Rachel Berls,
Berls also welcomed the students and conducted the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Glen Meadow Orchestra as they played, “Frosty the Snowman,” to audience cheers and claps.
Next, the Orchestra performed, “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” with a special guest star appearance of Principal Rosemary Gebhardt reading the poem, along with orchestra sound effects.
After she read, “In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;” the orchestra responded playing, “Santa Claus is coming to town.”
Other fun portions she read, and the orchestra answered were: “While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;” the orchestra played, “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” from the Nutcracker Suite; and “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!” when the orchestra finished with playing, “We wish you a Merry Christmas.”
Choir director William Kelter introduced his 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Choir to the children and told them “They love to sing.”
The choir sang “Let it Snow,” “How Far I’ll Go,” and “Jingle Bells,” to many concert-goer cheers.
During a pause in “How Far I’ll Go,” Kelter asked, “Do you know this one?”
“Yeah,” the students replied, as they enthusiastically sang along with the choir.
“Now we’ll sing “Jingle Bells” to the Nutcracker,” said Kelter.
“Yay!” shouted the students, with a lot more audience participation.
“How many of you want to play an instrument?” asked Kelter.
“Me!” shouted the students.
Band Director Jody Young said, “Welcome, Cedar Mountain.”
The 8th grade band then played a jazzy version of “Old St. Nick,” “Rudolph,” which was a big hit with a lot of loud sing-along voices, “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” and two Cedar Mountain students and middle school siblings played Young’s very special sleigh bells and maracas for “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
At the end, Gebhardt said, “1-2-3,” and the students called out, “Thank you!”
Then to top the concert off, Glen Meadow 8th grade students gave the Cedar Mountain students high-fives good-bye, as their guests left the building.
