Rothamel a strong competitor on Montclair swim team

Emily Rothamel (Vernon High School) is a sophomore competitor in backstroke and freestyle events for the Montclair State University women’s swim program this season.

In meets through December, Rothamel had her team’s top time in the 50 backstroke (28.91) versus Seton Hall on Oct. 12, the 100 backstroke (1:01.02) at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on Nov. 16 and the 200 backstroke (2:12.71) versus Drew on Oct. 20.

She had her team’s second best times in the 200 freestyle (2:04.20) versus Seton Hall, the 1,000 freestyle (11:39.37) versus Monmouth on Oct. 19 and the 1,650 freestyle (18:42.99) at the Ranger Invitational on Dec. 1. She also had her team’s fourth best time in the 400 freestyle (5:39.62) at the Ranger Invitational.

After six dual meets, the Red Hawks had an overall record of 3-3 and they were 2-1 in The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). They are scheduled to host Ramapo College in an NJAC meet on Jan. 19.

April Peterson (High Point High School) is a senior forward for the Stockton University women’s basketball team this year. Peterson started in eight of the first 10 games for Stockton and led her team with 13.3 points per game and 80 rebounds during that span.

Through Dec. 29, the Ospreys had two victories, both of which were earned on their home court. On Jan. 9, they are scheduled to host Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest.

Michael Derin (High Point High School) is a senior competitor in the 157-pound weight class for the Steven’s Institute of Technology wrestling program this winter. In competitions through December, Derin had a victory for SIT.

After eight dual meets, the Ducks had an overall record of 5-3. On Jan. 5, the Ducks are scheduled to take part in the North/South Duals in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

Trisha Peterson (High Point High School) is on the roster as a freshman guard for the Montclair State University women’s basketball team this season. Peterson played in each of the first 13 regular season games for Montclair State and averaged 3.1 points per game. She made eight 3-point baskets and had 10 rebounds during that span.

In games played through December, the Red Hawks had an overall record of 9-4 and they were 7-1 on their home court. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) they had a mark of 5-1. Montclair State has a home NJAC challenge scheduled versus Stockton University on Jan. 12.
