Police Unity Tour prepares for ride in May Local team raises funds, honors the fallen

    Sparta - On Saturday evening, Jan. 26, 2019, local police held a Police Unity Tour fundraiser at the Rockaway Mall Chipotle Restaurant.
    The fundraiser was in preparation for the officers' motorcycle ride from New Jersey to Washington D.C. in May, and the tour's awareness efforts that are two-fold. The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, to honor their sacrifice. But the ride also aims to help with fundraising for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum in Washington, D.C.
    The tradition of riding to Washington DC to raise funds, started out with 18 people riding from Florham Park, NJ, but there are now nine Unity Tour chapters nationwide, with 2,500 riders participating in the annual event.
    This year friends, family, and the public are asked to support the local police team called the North Jersey Riders. The team includes police from Sparta, Jefferson, and West Milford. The fundraiser will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the Chipotle in the Rockaway Mall, which is located at 301 Mt Hope Ave, Rockaway, NJ.
