John M. Gonzalez, Sr., 78, of Highland Lakes entered into eternal rest on January 14, 2019 in St. Anthony Hospital, Warwick, N.Y., in the presence of his loving family following a long illness. He was born Jan. 6, 1941, in New York, N.Y., to the late John P. and Josephine (nee Fernandez) Gonzalez.
John was a retired driver in the Newspaper and Mail Delivery Union and last worked for the New York Daily News. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Highland Lakes and enjoyed the company of his family and countless friends.
He is survived by his wife of nearly six decades, Phyllis (nee Donohue) Gonzalez; his son, John M., jr. and his wife Catherine of Slate Hill, N.Y.; daughters Paula Lhotsky and her husband, William, of Glenwood, and Ellen Van Dunk and her husband Frederick of Vernon; four cherished grandchildren: William Lhotsky, Alexis Van Dunk, Erin Lhotsky and Charlotte Gonzalez; a sister, Teresa Engelhardt and her husband Edgar of Fox Island, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gonzalez was predeceased by a grandson, John James Gonzalez.
Memorial mass on April 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 184 Breakneck Rd., Highland Lakes, N.J.
