VERNON — Peter Artusa, president of All County Window Cleaning, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Window Cleaning Association.
The board appointment comes as All County approaches its 20th year of doing business in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas.
In 2007, Peter Artusa retired after a 22-year career as a Police Officer with the Town of Warwick P.D. In 1993 Artusa formed the 1st K9 unit in the Town of Warwick P.D., where he worked with his first K9, Paco. He then continued to work with his second K9 Basko. Right after his retirement in 2007, he started his first company, A Sparkling View. After experiencing steady growth, he purchased All County Window Cleaning in 2013. All County Window Cleaning employs over 30 people and was founded in 2000.
The commercial/residential window cleaning industry is a multi-billion dollar a year industry. Commercial and residential window cleaning has grown at an average rate of 6.6 percent each year. It is hard to say exactly how many window cleaning companies there are in the U.S., but it is estimated to be 40,000 plus. This will include franchises down to one-man operations. The industry as a whole is basically made up of window cleaning, power washing, gutter cleaning, and roof cleaning just to name a few.
In 1989, a group of window cleaners met in Lubbock, Texas who determined that there should be a voice for the numerous professionals working within the window cleaning industry. Soon after that initial meeting, the International Window Cleaning Association was formed. From that day forward, it has been the mission of the IWCA to educate and assist its members in developing professionalism, ethics, and standards of safety and to actively represent the concerns and interests of window cleaning companies.
Each year, IWCA holds an annual convention and trade show for professionals working in all facets of the window cleaning industry, from high-rise and route/residential window cleaners to those who manufacture goods and services for window cleaning.
Additionally, the association offers four regional safety training sessions per year which give companies the opportunity to have their employees professionally trained. The IWCA has an alliance with OSHA to help promote safety in the industry. OSHA has developed a Web page exclusively for the IWCA. This page is a great resource that contains links that are helpful in your day-to-day business and will include links to products and programs developed by the IWCA OSHA Alliance.
Artusa will serve a 3-year term with the IWCA and then can become an officer with the organization. The IWCA currently represents approximately 370 professional members and 25 associate members.
