VERNON — The Vernon Township School District Special Education Parent Advisory Group meeting will be on March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lounsberry Hollow library.
It will begin by introduction of the new Director of Special Services, Ms. Deborah Merrill, followed by a presentation on the "Student's Self Advocacy Speaker's Bureau" by Ms. Candace Stout. The regular SEPAG meeting, which will include an update on the Restraint & Seclusion policy, will follow.
The Vernon Township School District SEPAG was formed to satisfy the New Jersey Department of Education’s mandate: Each district board of education shall ensure that a special education parent advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities
SEPAG is a group of volunteer parents and guardians of students with disabilities who work with VTSD’s administration and teachers to advise the Board of Education on policy and other matters related to special education services in the district and serve as a resource by giving information to other parents in Vernon Township. The committee is in place for all parents and guardians of students with special educational needs.
Each district board of education should develop and adopt a written policy which address the requirements of Restraint and Seclusion. The district is collaborating with the SEPAG in effort to adopt the best practices in meeting the needs of the children. Parents should be informed annually about the district’s policies for restraint and seclusion, including if the district has chosen not to allow the use of restraint and seclusion for its students with disabilities. The NJDOE recommends gathering input from the district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) on the policies.
The VTSD SEPAG leadership team consists of Leslie, Michele and Charlene. If you have any questions about the event, reach out to us at vtsdsepag@gmail.com or 862-204-4119. This event is open to any Vernon Community member of the Vernon Township School District.
A complimentary dinner from Tomato Garden will be served.
