Lisa Hirkaler, an AP Art History teacher at Vernon Township High School, recorded her video lecture for Columbia University’s Asia for Educators video program covering East Asian topics for the AP Art History Exam, “Teaching East Asian Art in the AP Art History Curriculum.”
Hers is one of six lectures available on the website Asian for Educators. She will be taping another lesson on Korean Art History artworks, which will include her current AP Art History students. Her manuscript, AP Art History in China, will go to print and will be offered on the same sites. For part of her research, Columbia gave her the chance to travel the China Silk Road, research the art, temples, Yellow Mountains, Great Wall, and major cities.
Hirkaler was named NBCT, NJ County Teacher of the Year in 2017. All six videos are available free at www.asiaforeducators.org, and include titles such as Keys to Understanding the Art of China, Keys to Understanding the Art of Japan, and How to Read Chinese Paintings, all offered by Columbia Professors.
