Spring fishing derby catches crowd

Fireman’s Pond on Route 515 was actively into the spring fishing season on Saturday April 13 as the annual fishing derby was sponsored by the PAL, Vernon Township and Double V Rod and Gun Club.
Excited youngsters were casting, baiting hooks and having a ball catching bass and catfish stocked into the pond on Thursday before the Saturday derby.
The derby offered two sessions of fishing including boys and girls from Grades K to 2 and Grades 3 to 6.
Trophies were awarded for the smallest fish, the biggest fish and the most caught total by one child.
Of course, all fish were catch and release.
