Cedar Mountain students finish art mural

First-grade art students from Cedar Mountain Primary School in Vernon recently created a collaborative mural which was displayed at the Board of Education Office, and is now on display at the school.
Each of the 198 first grade artists painted a feather using the technique of watercolor resist, adding salt for textural interest. The feathers were combined to make a soaring bird. The students enjoyed watching their work take shape on a bulletin board at school before it was moved to the Board Office.
The project was completed under the direction of Visual Arts teacher Denise Docherty with the assistance of building aide Mrs. Karen Gregory, along with Mrs. Docherty’s Vernon Township High School student volunteer Olivia Speight, who is an art major and works with the elementary art classes several afternoons per week.
