Cub Scouts help beautify town

Cub Scout Pack 183 was actively helping to beautify the grounds around the Vernon Municipal Building on a gorgeous May 22 afternoon.
Assisting the Vernon Beautification Committee, the scouts had a ball planting marigolds, cosmos and various perennials. The flowers were donated by the scouts, the Beautification Committee as well as the Democratic Committee. Also donated were young farm irises by Carol Kadish. In addition, the scouts also straightened and added decorative stones to the Samantha the bear monument area.
According to pack leader Laura Dombroski, there are roughly 80 scouts in the pack including 12 girls.
“The group is totally enthusiastic about participating in activities especially community service,” stated Dombroski.
In 2018, the pack achieved 400 hours of community service. This year they have already surpassed that number. The entire Patriots’ Path Council has impressively logged in more than 100,000 hours of community service.
Dombroski spoke of future projects the cub scouts will be involved with like cleaning the Greenway. Recently, Mayor Shortway discovered a “Lost Trail” which was actually a 1999 Eagle Scout project constructed by former resident Gregory Sheridan. Pack 183 cleared and spruced up the lost trail.
“Mayor Shortway attended a scout Round Table meeting and spoke and encouraged them to participate in community service,” Dombroski said.
