While Memorial Day is a time to remember the men and women in the military who are protecting our freedom it is also a time for families to enjoy the freedom that the brave military has provided. One popular choice is to participate in the Parent/Youth Tournament hosted by the Crystal Springs Golf Resort at the Minerals Golf Club. The weather man provided a perfect day for this celebration as mothers and fathers, daughters and sons competed together as team mates in the Memorial Day Parent/Youth Tournament.
Fifty-two parent-and-child golfers representing moms and dads, daughters and sons gathered at the Minerals Golf Club to play golf and celebrate Memorial Day.
The tournament featured a two-player team scramble format made up of a parent and their child. The competition was competed in three flights, the K to 4th grade, the 5th through 8th grade and the High School flights with prizes awarded to the teams in each flight with the lowest team score. An Awards Ceremony and buffet hamburger and hot dog fest with assorted salads and desserts followed the golf tournament at the Minerals Sport Club Pavilion provided by the Crystal Springs Food & Beverage staff.
At the completion of play the golf scorecards were tallied. The winner of the K-4th grade division was Jalen Savage, who with the help of his Dad Joe scored a 4-under-par 32. The winner for the 5th-8th Grade Division was Avery Cohen scoring an even par 31.
High School Division honors went to Pavol Spiskova who scored a 5 over par 36.
Nick Theodorou came in 2nd place I the 5-8 Division with a 2 over par 33 and helped his score by winning closest to the pin on the par 3 5th hole capped off by sinking a 26-foot birdie putt.
