The new artwork that frames the entrance to the Vernon Police Department is the result of a collaboration between the police and art students in the Vernon Township High School Art Honor Society.
Two panels were installed, one featuring the Vernon police patch, the other a compilation of students’ creative designs that represent the town.
The “Police Project” team worked on painting the panels from January until May after school several days a week. They were mounted and unveiled June 1 with an open house and ice cream social sponsored by the police department.
Some of the students who worked on the panels attended the unveiling: from left, Vernon Police Detective Haw, Officer Gentle, Kayla Cruz, Isabella DiBattista, Art Honor Society advisor and teacher, Patricia Soriano, Emily Picado, Aly Stella, and Police Chief Dan Young, who commissioned the work.
Other officers and family members were also on hand for the event.
