Adult therapy in a farm presence

Overlooking lush green horse pastures are the barn therapy office and new traditional therapy office of Diane Simon. With over 20 years of experience as a Speech- Language Pathologist, Simon has now expanded her practice to include adults with Neurogenic Communication Disorders, specifically, TBI, Parkinson’s, Dementia, concussions, brain tumors and trauma, stroke recovery and aphasia (loss of language).
“I believe that the therapy environment is so important to healing,” stated Simon.
According to Simon, when patients are discharged from a hospital and require outpatient therapy, the speech, physical and occupational therapy usually takes place in a busy rehab facility which can sometimes be stressful.
Stressing her local Hamburg practice, her calming and welcoming farm environment and also being a brand- new Medicare provider, Simon hopes individuals will consider her speech pathology practice. The practice also accepts NJ BCBS, Aetna, Cigna and other major insurance plans.
A typical session for a stroke patient would include working on clarity and pronunciation of speech, word retrieval, use of worksheets and therapy apps.
Simon is planning a Memory and Word Retrieval seminar at the farm located at 30 Beaver Run Road in Hamburg in July.
A near future plan would be to acquire an occupational therapist at the farm so patients will have an opportunity to both speech and occupational therapy at the same peaceful environment. Occupational therapy deals with the practice and recovery of fine motor skills such as writing and picking up things leading to returning to work or a comfortable retirement.
