Sussex County Miners right-handed pitcher Frank Duncan was named the Can-Am League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 10-16, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician.
Duncan was an easy choice for the honor after tossing the ninth no-hitter in league history on Thursday in a 3-0 victory over New Jersey. The San Francisco native faced the minimum 27 batters, walking one and striking out six while throwing just 89 pitches.
The 27-year-old is currently fifth in the league with a 2.73 ERA and is the only Can-Am pitcher to have thrown two complete games so far this season. Duncan is in his first campaign in independent baseball after having spent the previous five seasons in the Pittsburgh, Arizona, Colorado and L.A. Dodgers organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A.
