Vernon rejects bond ordinace

The Vernon Township Council rejected an ordinance that would have established about a $1.55 million bond ordinance on June 24.
The ordinance called for the purchase of a street sweeper, leaf vacuum, two dump truck bodies, along with sanders and shop equipment for the Department of Public works, a fingerprinting machine and a generator.
It also called for the improvement of various township streets, and the purchase of a dump truck.
Also on the ordinance was the improvement of township properties, including a new installation of the turf fields at Maple Grange Park, and additional work on the municipal building.
The ordinance did not pass, but instead was split into two ordinances, one being just for the fields and another for the other equipment.
Council President Jean Murphy, along with Council members Sandra Ooms and Patrick Curreri voted for splitting the audience while Councilmen John Auberger and Mark Van Tassel voted against.
Vernon Township Mayor Harry Shortway said the cost to replace the turf field would cost about $9 per year.
Both are expected to be on the agenda at the meeting on Monday, July 8.
The council did pass an ordinance providing for improvements to Veteran’s Memorial Park, which will cost about $15,000. There will be a public hearing at the July 8 meeting.
The council also tabled an ordinance to purchase 9 Wisteria Court.
Council members are waiting for a document, which was expected to be received at the end of June.
