Maple Grange Park to host Vernon Night Out

    Maple Grange Park in Vernon will host an event that all residents are invited on Aug. 7 to attend from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    The evening will include free fun, live music and giveaways, plus food will be available for purchase. Vernon Night Out is a combined effort by community champions to prevent crime and drug use and create awareness about available resources. This unique event is coordinated by the Vernon PAL, Vernon Coalition, Vernon Township Police Department and the Vernon Recreational Department. Free shuttle service will be offered by Karpf busing from Lounsberry Hollow School to Maple Grange park.
    Headlining the event, the Scott McBrit Band is an interactive Rock and Roll cover band who rocks the house playing covers from Bon Jovi, the Beatles, AC/DC, Billy Idol, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kid Rock, and much more. Families are welcome to bring chairs or blankets.
    Vernon Night Out is a fun, family-friendly event that promotes health and wellness with community partnerships and neighborhood comradery. Crystal Spring Resort is sponsoring family-friendly activities such as the Appalachian Animal Experience Petting Zoo, Archery Tag, Foot Golf and Foot Darts. Other free activities include arts and crafts, Angry Birds game and a Frisbee toss. Alcohol and smoking, including e-cigarettes will not be permitted.
    According to organizers, this is a night for Vernon to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. Vernon Night Out showcases the vital importance of community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer place for our families and businesses to grow and thrive. Representatives from CLEAR, Operation Helping Hand, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Center for Prevention and Counseling will be available to share information about prevention, treatment and recovery services. The Vernon Township Police Department, local fire departments and EMS will also be on hand to showcase safety equipment and strengthen relationships with the community.
    Atlantic Health Systems is proudly supporting Vernon Night Out with a special landing of a Medivac Helicopter. This specialized helicopter is a critical component of life-saving emergency services that provide medical air transport. Specialized flight personal will be on-hand to offer information and allow attendees to have their picture taken.
    “Vernon Night Out is a great opportunity for residents to come together and build stronger ties with their neighbors while have fun,” said Jeanne Buffalino, Assistant director for the Vernon PAL. “This event focuses on education, relationship building and creating awareness about resources that make Vernon a safe community for today and future generations.”
