HACKETTSTOWN — The Centenary Stage Company, a professional not for profit theater located on the Campus of Centenary University, will be holding, non-equity open auditions for the 2019 Summer Musical Season featuring Nunsense and Jesus Christ Superstar. Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 30 from noon until – 8 p.m. in the Lackland Performing Arts Center located on the campus of Centenary University at 715 Grand Ave. Hackettstown, NJ.
No appointment is necessary. Interested performers will be seen on a first come first served basis. All roles are open. CSC is seeking a diverse company, non-traditional casting will be considered and ethnic performers are strongly encouraged to attend. Stipend and housing provided. CSC is seeking dynamic actors, singers and movers – specifically singers with strong pop/rock abilities for Jesus Chris Superstar and singers with strong comedic timing for Nunsense. Performers should prepare 16–32 bars of a contemporary song from the musical theatre genre. An accompanist will be provided. There will be a movement portion of the audition. Be prepared to move.
The summer season will launch with Nunsense. Performances are scheduled for July 11 through July 21 with individual performances running Thursday through Sunday in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center. With music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, The Order of the Little Sisters of Hoboken take over a high school auditorium to hold a fundraising variety show in order to raise money to bury several sisters (who were accidentally poisoned by their cook). They must raise the funds before the health inspector comes and finds the dead nuns in their freezer. Fraught with hilarity, both Catholic and otherwise, five nuns try to perform their planned performance amidst chaos and calamity.
The summer season closes with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Performances are scheduled for Aug. 1-11 with individual performances running Thursday through Sunday in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center. Jesus Christ Superstar recounts the last days of Jesus Christ from the perspective of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. As Jesus’ following increases, Judas begins to worry that Jesus is falling for his own hype, forgetting the principles of his teachings.
