Following a record year in 2019 Mountain Creek celebrated the earliest opening of the ski resort in memory. Following a number of days of ideal snow making weather and a forecast of continuing cold the Mountain Creek management of the Resort decided to open the Resort for skiing and riding at the earliest date in history on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Even with short notice of the early opening local die-hards and visitors from as far as the Bronx in New York showed up in the hope of being a part of a record setting season.

Among the first day skiers were Buffy and John Whiting from Hidden Valley in Vernon who established a new record for the number of days skiing in New Jersey with 112 days skiing last ski season. Their previous record was 104.

Fathers and sons Matt and Aiden Majka from Frankford and Jeff and Jake Klein from Hamburg arrived early to lock down the right to ride the first chair on the lift to open the Resort for the season by breaking through the 2019 Opening Day Banner.

Mountain Creek Vice President of Marketing Hugh Reynolds and General Manager Charles Blier addressed the enthusiastic crowd as they waited for the clock to tick down to the 10 a.m. opening time. As the start time approached Reynolds counted down the final seconds and the skiers selected to ride the first chair, Matt and Aiden Majka and Jeff and Jake Klein, positioned themselves in the start gate and then broke through the 2019 first day banner officially opening the resort for skiing and riding.
